Most SaaS Bookkeeping is Built to Built to be Outgrown.
Pilot, Bench, and Zeni do fine work for early-stage founders who don’t need ASC 606 yet. The model works until you raise institutional capital. Then the limits show up. Cash-basis books, no deferred revenue waterfall, dashboard metrics that don’t reconcile to the GL, and a different bookkeeper every six months.
We’re built for founders who plan to raise. Accrual-basis from day one. ASC 606 applied correctly. The same senior accountant every month. Everything we set up now is what your auditor will see at Series B.

How We're Different.
We handle the operating accounting between funding rounds. The work that has to be done every month, whether or not you’re raising.
Fortress Accounting tracks the metrics that truly matter for your business:
Senior accountants, not offshore staff
Every engagement has a US-based senior accountant who knows your business. Your point of contact does not change every six months.
Crypto and AI handled in-house.
Wallet reconciliation, on-chain payments, GPU spend allocation, Section 174 for AI. The work most bookkeeping platforms refer out.
Built for what comes next.
Most SaaS bookkeeping platforms can't scale to the work you'll need at Series A and beyond. We're already set up for it.
Flat monthly fee.
Scoped at engagement. No surprise hours, no per-transaction billing. Real pricing on the pricing page — no "contact us for a quote." ddo the content.
Our Team Members
Who You'll, Work With.
Most clients work with a team of two or three: an engagement lead, a staff accountant handling daily transactions, and a CFO or controller for strategic finance work as needed.
We’ll introduce you to your specific team during the audit call, before you commit to anything.

Three Steps
The Three-Step for Engagement.
Book a 30-minute call.
We look at your current books, billing system, and metrics. You’ll know within the call whether we’re a fit.
We audit and quote.
Flat fee for cleanup, based on transaction volume and contract complexity. Monthly fee based on Fortress’s standard pricing tiers. No hourly billing surprises.
We rebuild and maintain.
Cleanup completes in 4 to 8 weeks for most SaaS companies. After that, monthly close in 10 business days, every month.
Common Questions
Common Questions, Before You Switch Firms.
I'm with Pilot, Bench, or Zeni now. When should I switch?
When any of these become true: you’re crossing $1M ARR, you’re planning a Series A, you need ASC 606 compliance, your bookkeeper changes every six months, or your books don’t reconcile to your investor metrics. Switching earlier is fine. Switching late is expensive — cleanup costs more than the difference in monthly fees over a year.
How does the transition from Pilot or Bench actually work?
We’ve handled it many times. The standard timeline is two to four weeks. We collect your last six months of books from your current provider, identify any cleanup needed (most Pilot or Bench books need ASC 606 work), and run parallel for one month. Your team’s involvement is a one-hour kickoff call and access provisioning.
What if my books are a mess from a previous bookkeeper?
We do cleanup as a separate project before ongoing bookkeeping starts. Quoted as a flat fee based on scope. Most SaaS cleanups take 4 to 8 weeks and surface during the discovery call so there are no surprises.
Are you actually cheaper than what I'd hire in-house?
Yes, if you’re below $5M ARR. A junior bookkeeper costs $65K to $90K loaded. A senior accountant costs $130K to $180K loaded. Both run benefits, training, and turnover risk. Our $3,500/month Series A tier replaces that hire and adds CPA-level review, ASC 606 specialization, and crypto/AI fluency.
Can I add fractional CFO support to the bookkeeping engagement?
Yes. About 60 percent of our Series A and beyond clients have both. The two services are tied — your CFO works inside your books, so the forecast ties to the GL. We bundle pricing for clients who take both.
What if I outgrow you?
You won’t, in most cases — we work through Series C. If you do outgrow us (usually because you’ve hired a full in-house finance team), we transition the work cleanly. We’ve helped clients hire their first VP of Finance and onboarded them ourselves.
Most Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How is SaaS bookkeeping different from regular bookkeeping?
SaaS bookkeeping requires accrual-basis accounting with ASC 606 revenue recognition, deferred revenue tracking, and reconciliation of subscription metrics to the GL. Regular bookkeeping handles cash in and cash out. The difference matters most when you start tracking ARR or plan to raise institutional capital.
What's the difference between Fortress and Pilot or Bench?
Pilot, Bench, and Zeni are bookkeeping platforms that use technology and offshore staff to keep costs low. They work for early-stage founders who don’t yet need ASC 606. Fortress is a CPA firm with US-based senior accountants who handle ASC 606, SaaS metrics, and crypto-native or AI-native complexity from day one. The price reflects the difference.
How much does SaaS bookkeeping cost?
Fortress bookkeeping starts at $1,200/month for pre-seed and seed-stage SaaS companies, $3,500/month for Series A through Series B, with custom pricing at Series C. Quoted as a flat monthly fee. Full pricing tiers on our pricing page.
When should I switch from Pilot or Bench to a CPA firm?
Most SaaS founders should switch when ARR crosses $1M, when an institutional fundraise is planned, when ASC 606 compliance becomes necessary, or when the bookkeeping platform’s limits start affecting decision-making. Switching earlier than necessary is fine. Switching late is expensive.
Do you handle crypto and Web3 SaaS bookkeeping?
Yes. Wallet reconciliation across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Solana, and Stacks. On-chain payment recognition. Stablecoin treasury. Lot-level cost basis. Most bookkeeping platforms refer this work out. We handle it in-house.
What software do you use for SaaS bookkeeping?
QuickBooks Online for most SaaS clients. Xero for international or AU/NZ-headquartered companies. We integrate with Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Mercury, Brex, Ramp, Bitwave, and Cryptio. We’re tech-agnostic but opinionated about which tools work for SaaS.
How fast can you get me onboarded?
Most onboardings complete in 2 to 4 weeks. Faster if your books are already in good shape. Slower if cleanup is required first.
Can you handle my taxes too?
Yes. We handle federal and state tax filings, Section 174 capitalization, R&D tax credits, and sales tax setup. Tax work is quoted separately or as part of a bundled engagement.
